The Relationship between Demographic Characteristics and Organizational Citizenship Behavior in Nurses in Hamadan Educational Centers

Background: Nurses are the most important members of the care team and the most effective components of the hospital to improve the quality of services to patients, and Their organizational citizenship behaviors are an important factor for the realization of this service. Organizational citizenship behaviors from nurses can prevent additional system costs. The present study was an attempt to investigate the relationship between demographic characteristics and organizational citizenship behavior of nurses in Hamadan educational centers. Methods: The present study was a descriptive-analytic correlation study conducted in 1395. The research population was all nurses of Hamadan medical education centers. Using random stratified random sampling, 200 nurses were selected. Data gathering tools were Demographic Information and Organizational Citizenship Behavior of Podsakoff et al Questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS software version 21 using t-test and ANOVA and Pearson correlation coefficient. Results: The results showed a relatively favorable level of nurses' organizational citizenship behavior and Organizational citizenship behavior of nurses with age (r = 0/20 and p <0/005) and work experience (p <0/029 and  r = 0/16) were statistically significant. Conclusion: Organizational citizenship behavior of nurses increases with increasing their age and work experience. Therefore, to take advantage of the organizational citizenship behavior in hospitals, special attention should be paid to training and supporting younger nurses with less work experience.
